In 2013, the MFLF was approached by the UNHCR, with the approval of the Thai and Myanmar Governments, to carry out a profiling exercise of 130,000 displaced people in nine temporary shelters along the Thai-Myanmar border. The objective of the exercise was to understand the demographics of the displaced and offer them a voluntary opportunity to share their plans and concerns with all stakeholders involved in helping plan their future when they returned home.  The profiling exercise emphasized a consensual, participatory and voluntary process. Results from the exercise were shared with the Thai and Myanmar Governments for effective planning for sustainable repatriation of the displaced, based on their true wishes and needs.
