(13 October 2017) M.R. Disnadda Diskul, Chairman of the Mae Fah Luang Foundation under Royal Patronage, presided at the ceremony to remove bandages after cataract surgery for 75 local residents at Tak Bai Hospital, Narathiwat Province. The event, organized annually by the MFLF and the Princess Mother’s Medical Volunteer Foundation for the 21nd consecutive year after the death of HRH the Princess Mother in 1995, and the third time in the three southern border provinces, was also joined this year by the Royal Initiative Discovery Foundation (RIDF).
M.R. Disnadda noted that the date coincided with the first anniversary of the passing of King Bhumibol Adulyadej, Rama IX, so this service for others was a form of paying homage to the Late King, allowing people to be self-reliant and live with dignity.
A total of 75 cataract surgeries were performed as well two extreme cases of pterygium, with the oldest patient being 92 years of age. The surgeries were all successful, and the medical team will continue to follow up and provide medical advice to patients.
