As part of an ongoing partnership between the Mae Fah Luang Foundation under Royal Patronage and the city of Kasama, Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan, one of Doi Tung’s young and talented ceramic artists, Thipawan Duangdokmoon, was sent to Kasama on a 1-year study programme at the Kasama College of Ceramic Art in Kasama. The training served to enhance her knowledge of ceramic art to share with the new generation of artists in Doi Tung, and to elevate Doi Tung’s ceramics products to international standards. This will help bring Doi Tung products into the realm of unique art collectibles.
This partnership was initiated in 2015 by Khunying Puangroi Diskul na Ayudhya, the MFLF’s Board Member and Deputy Secretary-General. Kasama, Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan, is renowned for its ceramic art, and through the programme, the city of Kasama sent two ceramic experts to provide training at the Doi Tung Development Project to enhance skills and draw out the unique characteristics of Doi Tung ceramics.
Doi Tung’s ceramic artists then presented their work at the annual Himatsuri earthenware festival in Kasama alongside local ceramic artists. Kasama also awarded scholarships to Doi Tung’s artists to study ceramics in Japan.
