After four-year success of International Internship Program, the Knowledge and Learning Centre (KLC) hosted the fifth International Internship Program during June 1st to August 10th 2014 so as to provide all attended students to comprehend our development principles and approaches and be able to initiate short-term project that benefit both Doi Tung community and themselves.

This year the goals of the program is for both Thai and international students to estimate the possibility of community enterprise and also create the strategic business plan including with communication tools – TV commercial and printed media - for the Doi Tung Development Project through their understanding of the Project after exchanging knowledge and experiences with the development practitioners and local people.

Thirteen interns - three Thais and ten foreigners – came from the world’s leading universities including Columbia University - SIPA, MIT Sloan School of Management, Brown University, University of Pennsylvania - The Wharton School, Miami University, University of Cincinnati, College Conservatory of Music and Carnegie Mellon University from the United States of America; European Business School from United Kingdom; Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology from Australia; Chulalongkorn University, Thammasat University from Thailand.

The 5th International Internship Program divided students into three working groups as follow:

1. Feasibility Study Report on Community Enterprises: developing a feasibility study report for the Vertical Aquaponic Vegetable Garden, Free Range Chicken Farming, and Solar Cell System. The team will analyze the cost and benefit of the particular enterprises and also share the creativity and innovation in order to empower the communities to help themselves. The product of their work will be the feasibility study report on the community enterprises.

2. Retail Experience Design for DoiTung Lifestyle Shop: developing series of media to help promote DoiTung experience and provide background information for the customers to help them understand more about DoiTung brand and products. Their work consists of 1) three-minute TV commercial demonstrating about DoiTung products 2) printed advertisement such as poster and brochure.

3. Phahee Coffee Social Enterprise Business Model: developing the business model for Phahee Coffee Enterprise by analyzing not only the domestic market trend but also the global one. When combined with internal and external factors analysis regarding the coffee industry, the team would be able to propose suitable marketing plan, financial projection and recommendations for Akha Phahee Village, 1 of the 29 villages of the Doi Tung development Project, to strengthen their Phahee coffee business and also to encourage the community to become the owner of social enterprise managed by the local poeple themselves. The product of their work will be social enterprise business model for Phahee Coffee.
