DTDP Advisor as a panelist at the UNGASS 2015
On 23 September 2015, Lawrence Watson, member of the Advisory Board of the Doi Tung Development Project, was invited to present the Mae Fah Luang Foundation under Royal Patronage’s (MFLF) principles in sustainable development at the United Nations Drug Policy Review in Brussels, Belgium.
The 2-panel debate took place at the European Parliament to influence the discussions of the United Nations General Assembly Special Session on Drugs (UNGASS) to be held in April 2016 in New York. The event was co-organized by European Drug Policy Network EURAD and NGO Dianova International with 110 attendees, mainly members of the European Parliament and NGO representatives.
As one of the six panelists, Mr. Watson shared the principles of MFLF and its flagship project, the Doi Tung Development Project (DTDP) that tackled drug issues through rehabilitation and sustainable development in the northern communities of Thailand, once the largest opium cultivating area of the world. The DTDP has been recognized by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime as one of the world’s best example in Alternative Development.
