Thailand Hosts the International Conference on Alternative Development 2 (ICAD2)
ICAD2 convened policy makers, experts, practitioners, members of international organizations, and civil societies from around the world to Thailand
on 19-24 November 2015.
The International Seminar Workshop on the Implementation of United Nations Guiding Principles on Alternative Development (UNGPs on AD) provided a platform for participants to connect and actively participate through workshops and study visits to internationally recognized Thai royal initiated alternative development projects in Thailand and Myanmar.
Her Royal Highness Princess Bajrakitiyabha presided over the opening of the ICAD2. The visited sites include the Doi Tung Development Project (DTDP) in Chiang Rai and Thailand-Myanmar Cooperation on Sustainable Alternative Livelihood Development in Shan State, Myanmar, by the Mae Fah Luang Foundation under Royal Patronage, and His Majesty King Bhumibol’s initiated Projects in Chiang Mai by the Royal Project Foundation.
The study visits were followed by discussions on the application of alternative development practices in different contexts and on the advance of UNGP on AD towards practical application and integrating alternative development into larger national and international development plans in alignment with the Post-2015 SDG global agenda.
Subsequent to the seminar workshop was the high-level conference, which was held in Bangkok. The panel discussions took place with a welcome remark delivered by H.E. General Prayut Chan-o-cha Prime Minister of Thailand, VDO Message by H.E. Mr. Yury Fedotov Executive Director of UNODC, and remarks by H.E. Mr. Aldo Lale-Demoz Deputy Executive Director of UNODC, H.E. Mrs. Marlene Mortler Federal Drug Commissioner, the Federal Republic of Germany and H.R.H Princess Bajrakitiyabha Mahidol.
